The Closer

About this event

The Closer

You worked the whole point to earn a sitter, then popped it into the net or sailed it long. This clinic fixes that. You'll build reliable overheads off the lob, compact punch volleys that end the rally, and the discipline to pick a target instead of just swinging hard. Four players, 90 minutes. Stop missing the ball you earned and start closing points out.

90-Minute Session Outline (max 4 players)

Warm-up (10 min)

Volley and overhead reps at low intensity to groove the contact point. Coach frames the goal: finishing is about control and target, not raw power.

Block 1: The Overhead (22 min)

Footwork first: turn sideways and shuffle back under the lob rather than backpedaling. Contact out in front and up, with a controlled swing you can repeat. Target the open feet or the middle seam, not the baseline. Reps off fed and live lobs.

Block 2: Punch Volleys and Putaways (22 min)

The compact finish: a short punch through the ball with no big backswing, driving it down at the feet or into the gap. Take the high ball out of the air early instead of letting it drop. Cue: place it, don't crush it. Reps attacking high balls.

Block 3: Closing the Point (21 min)

The discipline piece: choose target over power, keep the easy ball in play, and finish the point you set up instead of forcing it. Learn which putaway target the situation gives you. Live points that build to a clear finishing ball players must convert.

Live Play (12 min)

Games scored on conversion: you earn extra for putting away…
